Rain Chain Press authors at Miami Book Fair 2020
This year, the Miami Book Fair has gone digital — so you can join from anywhere around the world! Rain Chain Press authors were there throughout the week. Viewing Book Fair panels requires login, but are free and can be watched up to a year after the Fair.

Laura Valeri, author of After Life as a Human, was interviewed by Sandra Beasley on Tuesday, November 17th — you can watch the panel here.

Lynne Barrett discussed her contribution to Miami Noir: The Classics on Sunday, November 15th. You can also see her featured in the Miami 100s from Extra Virgin Press.

This year, the Sanibel Island Writers Conference went digital, October 24th & 25th. Both Tom DeMarchi & Lynne Barrett were there, and if you missed the panels, you can watch them online now!

Lynne Barrett read, and What Editors Want was available, at several events this winter and spring.

Barrett gave a workshop on Making Good Time: Story and the Map of Opportunity at Books & Books Coral Gables on February 8th. The workshop looked
 at how writers use place, movement, territory, obstacles, access, boundary crossing, departures, returns, and other aspects of spatial movement to construct, shape, and give meaning to stories, whether true or invented.

Barrett was also at the Coral Spring Arts Festival on Saturday, March 1st, at the Walk of Coral Springs.

​And Barrett was featured at a digital evening for Making Good Time, hosted by Books & Books and the Miami Book Fair, as part of Independent Bookstore Day on August 29th. The event was featured among others by Buzzfeed News.
2019
Awards & events for Tom DeMarchi
The title story from Möbius Strips and Other Stories was chosen as a Best Small Fiction Anthology Selection 2019! Check out the full list of winners from the Sonder Press.
Tom DeMarchi read alongside Shannon Capone Kirk and Hank Phillippi Ryan at Allie's Beach Street Cafe in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts on Sunday, June 30th.
The Alliance for the Arts in Fort Myers, Florida, hosted an evening with Tom DeMarchi on May 2nd. Find out more at their website.
Tom DeMarchi read at the Small Press Showcase hosted by Forest Avenue Press and Broadway Books in Portland, Oregon, March 29th, in conjunction with the AWP 2019 conference. Check out the Facebook event for more information.
Tom DeMarchi presented at the FGCU Writing Awards presentation in Fort Myers, Florida. He was the honored guest at the Student Writing Awards ceremony on March 20th, and the featured reader at the Samuel Pepys Reading Series on March 21st. Both events took place at Florida Gulf Coast University.

​Lynne Barrett with Making Good Time​ and teaching craft around the country

Lynne Barrett read and taught at a variety of events around South Florida in autumn 2019, featuring both What Editors Want and her new anthology, Making Good Time: True Stories of How We Do, and Don't, Get Around in South Florida. The Making Good Time book release was held at Books & Books in Coral Gables on September 21st.

A reading and panel took place at the 
Mandel Public Library in West Palm Beach, October 16th, and both Making Good Time and What Editors Want ​were available. Barrett also read alongside M.J. Fievre at the "Off The Island" Mini-Conference at Florida Gulf Coast University on November 13th.

Making Good Time was recently featured as the November cover story in The Biscayne Times. And Barrett was interviewed about Making Good Time on WLRN.
Lynne Barrett was a part of the To Write Miami series, presented by the Museum of Art & Design, on August 28th. The reading was at Soya & Pomodoro in Downtown Miami. To read more about the To Write Miami series, see this article from Jitney Books. Barrett also instructed the October edition of First Draft: A Literary Social on October 1st at Books & Books @ the Arsht Center, Miami.
Barrett also returned to the International Women's Writing Guild conference at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA on July 12th-19th. See the card at right and the IWWG website for more information.

Lynne Barrett was at Grub Street's Muse and the Marketplace conference in Boston from April 5th-7th. Grub Street has been named North America's #1 Writing Conference by The Writer ​magazine. Find out more at the Muse and the Marketplace website.
Barrett lead a workshop on the revision process at the Writers Craft Conference of the Florida Keys, held at the Marathon Community Theater in Marathon, FL on April 13th. The workshop "offered strategies for identifying revision habits that can limit you... and how to use your time well in finding your way along the path to a complete and satisfying story." Lynne Barrett was at the Gulf Coast Association of Creative Writing Teachers' Fairhope, AL conference on March 22nd-23rd. She was on a panel on What Editors Want, the inside scoop on literary magazines, anthologies and more, and a panel on making your readings as good as your writing. ​Two of our authors, Lynne Barrett and Tom DeMarchi, appeared at the Miami Book Fair 2019 at Miami Dade College, both on Sunday, November 24th. Barrett emceed a panel on Making Good Time in room 8302, and DeMarchi read from Möbius Strips and Other Stories in room 8303, alongside Jim Ray Daniels.

​Lynne Barrett in Sanibel, Allentown, Boston
Lynne Barrett taught about plot and structure, and was also on the Editors and Agents panel, at the FGCU Sanibel Island Writer's Conference on Sanibel Island, Florida, November 8-11.
Lynne Barrett taught at the International Women's Writing Guild annual conference at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA, July 6-13. She presented a generative fiction workshop: "Spinning Straw into Gold: Exploring Fiction’s Many Forms."
Barrett also presented at Grub Street's Muse and the Marketplace conference in Boston from April 6th-8th, 2018, including two sessions on Productive Revision, or How to Stop Perfecting Paragraphs and Strengthen Your Story. Find out more at the Muse and the Marketplace website.
The Fool Sings for Women's History Month
Two of Weslea Sidon's poems from The Fool Sings were featured in the Women's History Month art show at the Southwest Harbor Public Library. The exhibition of art inspired by the writings of Maine women authors was open to the public at the library in Southwest Harbor, Maine, from March 5th-April 27th. Lynne Barrett ​at International Women's Writing Guild & Muse and the Marketplace
Lynne Barrett taught, and What Editors Want​ was available, at the International Women's Writing Guild summer conference in Allentown, Pennsylvania, from July 7th-14th.
Lynne Barrett taught at Grub Street's Muse and the Marketplace conference, which ran May 5th-7th, 2017, in Boston, Massachusetts. In addition to her presentations, she was part of a panel on "Spitballing," using brainstorming techniques to push initial story ideas into wilder and more provocative possibilities. The event was free and open to the public.
What Editors Want Workshop in Palm Springs
Saturday, April 22nd, from 10 AM to noon, Lynne Barrett gave a free writing workshop at the Palm Springs Public Library in Palm Springs, Florida. The workshop was for anyone who wishes to see their work published in magazines, and What Editors Want​ was available.

Islands Writers Workshop with Weslea Sidon and Lynne Barrett

July 25 — Weslea Sidon, author of The Fool Sings, and
Lynne Barrett, author of Magpies, taught a writers' workshop on Mount Desert Island at the Bass Harbor Memorial Library in Bernard, Maine. Using the overall theme of "Islands," the workshop drew upon topics including history, memory, myth, nature, community, isolation, boundaries and journeys.

The Fool Sings Launch at Southwest Harbor Public Library
July 2 — Weslea Sidon launched The Fool Sings, her new book of poetry, at the Southwest Harbor Public Library in Southwest Harbor, Maine. It was a smash hit! The room was packed, and the reading excellent.
